Encouraging the UAE's brightest and best to apply to Oxford

Students from across the United Arab Emirates are being inspired to apply to study at Oxford, thanks to a successful initiative by the Oxford and Cambridge Society of the UAE.

Almost 200 students, parents and school counsellors from across the country converged on Dubai’s Nord Anglia International School for the group’s recent 2018 Oxbridge Applicant event.

The event included presentations about various aspects of applying to and studying at Oxford and Cambridge. Applicants had the opportunity to put questions to and receive guidance from alumni volunteers across a wide range of subjects, based on their own experiences.

Gill Shepherd, the group’s schools’ liaison officer, said she was delighted alumni and guests alike had commented on how interesting and enjoyable the event was.

‘Over the last two years the alumni volunteers have supported 242 applicants from 19 schools, 41 of whom have received offers,’ she added.

‘The volunteers are keen to provide support again, in the form of practice interviews in November, in what will be the alumni’s biggest admissions round yet, given we are now in contact with 30 schools.’
