Joint group celebrations in Munich

Oxonians from two German alumni groups came together to socialise in style at the world-renowned Oktoberfest in Munich this month.

OUS Munich has traditionally held an event around the Oktoberfest for the past several years.

This year around 40 Oxonians attended their get-together, including Brian Melican, Oxford contact for the Oxford and Cambridge Society of Hamburg.

The joint outing came about after Brian was looking at other groups’ websites last summer with a view to increasing their contacts and noticed the Munich event.

“We all had such a good time together last year, that I said I'd go back this year…and go back I did!,” he added.

“It was excellent – Caroline [Weimann, OUS Munich’s joint president) and her committee are consummate hosts!

“There was a great mix of ages and backgrounds and – after a nice quiet start – we finished the evening in style standing on the benches!”

The Hamburg group are now looking at other opportunities to collaborate with the Munich group beyond their annual Oktoberfest pilgrimage…
