Oxford & Cambridge Chapter in Romania - Dinner with the Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor of Oxford, Professor Andrew Hamilton, and his wife Jennie left Oxford on a cold, wet and windy English morning in September for a visit to Bucharest, Romania, where they arrived to be greeted by a warm, sunny late-summer evening and around 30 members of the Oxford & Cambridge Chapter in Romania.

Professor Hamilton came to Bucharest to receive a doctorate honoris causae from Bucharest University, and the chapter took advantage of this occasion to invite him to dinner at one of the oldest restaurants in the city. The alumni turnout for this event was a record – a clear demonstration of the Vice-Chancellor’s star appeal!

The evening was a great success, combining good food with stimulating discussions in splendid surroundings and culminating in a brief speech from the Vice-Chancellor in which he talked about the magical trick performed by both Oxford and Cambridge, of preserving their ancient fabric and customs, while continually evolving to remain at the forefront of academic achievement.

Our thanks are due to Professor Hamilton for making this event possible, and we wish him well in his upcoming new assignment in the USA.
