The Oxford & Cambridge Society of Poland invites alumni and guests to join them for their annual dinner at Warsaw's Amber Room restaurant, with guest speaker Sir John Scarlett KCMG OBE, former British senior intelligence officer. 

Sir John (Magdalen, 1967) was Chief of the British Intelligence Service from 2004 to 2009. During his career he served in Nairobi, Paris and Moscow, as well as several assignments in London covering the Middle East, Africa, Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union.

He retired from MI6 in September 2001 on appointment as Chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee in the Cabinet Office. For the following three years, he was responsible for the coordination and presentation of intelligence advice to the Prime Minister and senior members of Government.

In August 2004, Sir John rejoined MI6 as its Chief until his retirement in October 2009, after 38 years in Government service.

He has since taken up a number of advisory roles and chairmanships, including as Chairman of Bletchley Park Trust, Vice-Chairman at the Royal United Services Institute and as a trustee of the Imperial War Museum.

Dress code for the evening is suits. A vegetarian menu is available on request.
