Professor Louise Richardson, this year installed as Oxford’s Vice-Chancellor, will consider the motives of terrorists today and through the ages and will take questions from the audience. A political scientist, Professor Louise Richardson has written widely on international terrorism. Her books include What Terrorists Want: Understanding the Enemy, Containing the Threat.

The Rt Hon the Lord Patten of Barnes, CH, Chancellor of the University, in conversation with diplomats

Ruby Wax, comedian and campaigner, on mindfulness
According to Ruby Wax, ‘mindfulness isn’t about sitting erect on a hillock, legs in a knot… it’s something that can help us all: learning to notice your thoughts and feelings so you can truly experience life.’ Ruby Wax and Professor Willem Kuyken will discuss how mindfulness-based cognitive therapy can both prevent depression and enhance human potential.
