OUS West Sussex

This is the web page for the West Sussex alumni group. The group has historically organised three events a year, including a visit to a museum or place of interest in the spring, a garden tea-party in the summer, and a lunch in Chichester in November, followed by a speaker, usually from Oxford, who entertains and informs group members about some aspect of Oxford life or research. In November 2015,  members enjoyed a very interesting talk by Professor Paul Smith, Director of the University of Oxford's Museum of Natural History, about the history of the museum and its current programme of activities.

OUS West Sussex group John Wyatt Bursary

The group has historically offered a bursary of up to £300 to students from West Sussex to help finance a project in the summer vacation that is relevant to the student's course of study at Oxford. The John Wyatt Bursary is so named in memory of a former Chairman of the West Sussex group who died in 2014.

The group awarded two bursaries in 2015: One to Katherine Ward of Somerville College, to help fund a trip to Zambia to work as a short-term teaching assistant in Tongabezi School, Zambia, and one to Barnaby Wynter, of St Peter’s College, to help fund an intensive residential course in music performance at the University of Wolverhampton. Both gave a very interesting short talk on their project to members of the West Sussex group at the annual lunch in November that year.
