Friday 1 June 2018: Visit to Frogmore Paper Mill, Apsley
Time: 10.30am-3pm
Venue: Frogmore Paper Mill, Fourdrinier Way, Apsley, Hemel Hempstead HP3 9RY
Details: Frogmore Paper Mill has been making paper for well over a century. On the private guided tour, the group will see them making paper commercially and by hand, view the historic collection of letterpress equipment and a heritage fire-engine and take a 20 minute ride on a narrow boat.
The group will arrive at 10.30am for coffee/tea and will then receive a talk and a tour of the site. A fish and chip lunch will be served in the cafe, followed by a 20 minute narrow-boat cruise. After the cruise, attendees are welcome to continue exploring the site at their leisure. There is an adjacent public car park (£2 for the day).
Cost: £24 per head for adults (£12 for school age children) including the refreshments on arrival and fish and chip lunch.

Sunday 24 June 2018: Family gathering at Rothamsted Festival of Ideas
Time: 2pm onwards
Venue: Rothamsted Research, Harpenden, Hertfordshire, AL5 2JQ
Details: Rothamstead Research Facility in Harpenden carry out research into farming and the biological sciences. On the weekend of 23 and 24 June, they are celebrating their 175th anniversary with a Festival of Ideas for all ages from 11am to 5pm each day. The attractions they will be offering include science demonstrations, exhibits, wonder trails, tractor rides, debates and talks, a treasure hunt and cream teas.
The Hertfordshire alumni group will be enjoying drinks just beyond the sports paviliion at the festival from 2pm onwards on the Sunday. These will be available to OUS members and their guests. There is an adjacent public car park (£2 for the day). After parking here, walk uphill a half a mile or so towards the tennis courts to reach the sports fields. These will be covered with flags and exhibits. 
Cost: £8, children under 12 free

Saturday 30 June 2018: Tour of the RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre 
Time: 2pm - 4pm
Venue: RSPCA Southridge, Packhorse Lane Ridge, Potters Bar, EN6 3LZ
Details: The event provides a chance to go behind the scenes of the RSPCA Southridge Animal Centre, where volunteers seek to rescue and re-home almost 1,000 animals every year. 
The group will have a 1½ -2 hour private tour by staff around the site, including the surgery and kennels, with plenty of chances to ask questions about the work of the RSPCA. There will be up to 250 animals of all sizes, from horses to mice, with each animal having its own story to tell. Set in 16 acres, the site is conveniently situated off the M25, with plenty of free parking. Attendees are welcome to enjoy lunch or a cake beforehand in the centre café (with all profits going to the centre). 
Cost: £12.50 per adult and £6 per child (including a donation of 80% of the ticket price to the centre)
