On 27 August 2015 we once again gave our ‘Farewell to Freshers’ in honour of the latest generation of Victorians going up to Oxford. The generous hospitality of the Boston Consulting Group not only provided us with a fine setting, refreshments, and a beautiful 52nd floor view: it also reminded us all of the exciting career opportunities that await those with the Oxford advantage. Some 40 alumni and freshers were in attendance.

The highlight of the Oxford University Society in Victoria’s calendar is the Annual Dinner and this year was no exception. Held on August 8, close to 100 members and guests enjoyed a convivial evening of excellent company, fine food (smoked salmon, lamb Wellington, crème brûlée) , fine wine (shiraz, chardonnay, champagne) and an exceptional, thought-provoking and entertaining presentation by our Guest Speaker, Professor Glyn Davis, AC, Vice Chancellor and Principal of the University of Melbourne.
The Vancouver Oxford & Cambridge Society’s (VOCS) held their child-friendly garden party in the garden of the UK consul general (“Kidnic”) earlier this month (July).
More than 60 big and little people attended and sated themselves on Pimm’s skillfully mixed by Alan Lund, tea, scones, cream, strawberries, cucumber, egg salad and peanut butter sandwiches, as well as wonderful asparagus and bacon roll-ups, and a selection of ‘tea-suitable’ biscuits.
