Literature lovers and those with an eye for adventure are invited to explore India through Rudyard Kipling’s eyes. Lecturer Sarah Shaw, a Kipling expert, will accompany the tour which journeys from the bustling metropolis of Bombay (now Mumbai) to the wild jungles of Maharashtra and then on by train to Shimla in the foothills of the Himalayas. This literary journey has been designed to bring to life the places, cultures and characters of Kipling’s most famous works.
- Expert lecturer Sarah Shaw, Faculty Member at Oxford University’s Oriental Institute, will deliver a series of short lectures about Kipling and his work, as well as carefully chosen poetry and short story readings
- Follow in Kipling’s footsteps to understand the cultures, characters and settings of The Jungle Book and Kim, as well as Kipling’s poetry
- Encounter Kipling’s inspiration for Shere Khan in the Bhandavgarh National Park and meet Tara, the elephant star of Mark Shand’s best-selling ‘Travels on my Elephant’ at Kipling Camp
- Ride the toy train of the Kalka-Shimla railway, with its 120 tunnels and breath-taking mountain views
