Alumni are invited to join Dr Xa Sturgis, CBE, Director of the Ashmolean Museum, and Holly Peterson, Director of Alumni Engagement, on their visit to New York.

The evening will start with a discussion on “What are Museums For? The Ashmolean past, present and future” led by Dr Sturgis, with the chance to ask questions and discuss ideas with fellow alumni. At a time when the Ashmolean’s extraordinary ancient statue
of the god Min is on loan to the Met as part of their Divine Egypt exhibition the Museum’s Director, Dr Xa Sturgis will consider the shifting role and purpose of the Museum – from the creation of the Ashmolean – arguably the world’s oldest museum
– to the challenges and opportunities faced by Museums today as they adapt to a changing world.

The discussion will be followed by a networking reception with canapes.
